Katja Mater captures the ways in which optical media and the human eye work differently. Her work may remind you of the artworks made by the famous graphic artist M.C. Escher. In the TILED series, a painting on paper gets enlarged and split up, unfolded and tiled back together. We see different fragments of the same painting on different photo negatives. Each of these negatives offers a different view of the same moment, and thereby visualises the different ways of looking. The split moments are then brought together to form one bigger image; the final work is both fragmented and whole.
