Alexandra Hunts, Ton, 2016, fine art print on aluminum

On this photograph you see 1,000 kilograms of…?

You are looking at an object made of cut-out apples. Photographer Alexandra Hunts asks questions about the tension between science, culture, reality and fiction. Alexandra conducts her own research in nature. For example, she explores how to visualise the abstract concept of 'mass'. For her research on a 'true' kilogram in nature, Alexandra worked on an apple farm, where she picked and weighed apples to see what 1,000 kilograms of apples looks like. She took a photo of each kilogram. The result is an installation of 1,000 cut-out apples, a sculpture made of small photos.
